Fava's Story
Having grown up in Egypt, Hattem Nigma developed a love for fava beans when he was very young. Since moving to the United States, he has enjoyed sharing with new friends his delicious family recipes, passed down from his mother and grandmother. Over many years, these fava dishes created quite a stir whenever he prepared them. When asked where more of this kind of food could be found, Hattem realized that there wasn’t anyone else using fava beans in this way; thus the seeds for Fava, Inc. were planted.
In late 2008, Hattem introduced some of the recipes to the patrons at a friend's tea shop in San Francisco, offering free samples and asking for feedback. The response was overwhelmingly positive, to the degree that many patrons asked if they could buy more right there on the spot. It became abundantly clear to Hattem that there is a yearning out there for tasty, healthy, vegan-friendly, exciting ready-to-eat products.
In the spring of 2009, Hattem, joined by Daniel Davis and Patanjali Venkatacharya, put together a team of enthusiastic professionals, dedicated to making Fava Inc. grow and succeed, and the company was born. These good friends set forth with a simple mission - to share their love of fava beans with the world (meet the Fava Team).
Starting from the ground up, Fava quickly created a buzz with their products at farmers’ markets in San Francisco and the Bay Area, developing a following of enthusiastic, loyal customers.
Our goals are to promote the health and well-being of our consumers; to continue to excel in creating hand-crafted, simple, and healthy natural foods; and to build a company culture that encourages innovation and authenticity, as well as personal and collective growth.
Fava is currently expanding into local and regional natural foods outlets all over the Bay Area, such as Whole Foods Market.
