Fava's Story
Growing up in Egypt, Hattem Nigma experienced a love for fava beans since he was very young. He decided to share the delicious family recipes, passed down to Hattem from his mother and grand mother, with the good friends he was making here in the United States. Over many years the fava dishes created quite a stir everywhere he prepared them. When asked where more of this kind of food could be found Hattem found that there wasn’t anyone else using fava recipes in this way - the seeds for Fava, Inc. were being planted.

In late 2008, Hattem introduced some of the recipes to the patrons at a friend's tea shop in San Francisco. He offered free samples and asked for feed back. The response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic to the degree that many patrons asked if they can buy some right there on the spot. It became abundantly clear to Hattem that there is a yearning out there for tasty, healthy, vegan friendly ready to eat products.

In the spring of 2009, Alonzo Wilkins came on as the Director of Operations and the company was born. Good friends set forth with a simple mission - to share their love of fava beans with the world.

Starting from the ground up, Hattem and Alonzo created a buzz with the Fava products at farmers markets in San Francisco and the Bay Area, quickly developing a following of enthusiastic, loyal customers.

Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of our consumers; continue to excel in creating hand crafted, simple, and healthy natural foods; and build a company culture that encourages innovation, authenticity, as well as personal and collective growth.

Fava is currently expanding into local and regional natural foods outlets all over the Bay Area such as Whole Foods Market.
